Kurt Wallander, still struggling to adapt to his diabetes, is thrown into investigating a shocking crime committed by two teenage girls, and then enquiring about an apparently natural death of a loner computer programmer. A link between the dead man and one of the teenage girls makes the situation even more complicated, and then Wallander is further distracted by an investigation into him for unprofessional behavior. People keep dying, and Wallander is feeling more and more betrayed by his co-workers as he races time to break the "Firewall" of the computer programmer.
