Read in September, 2007

I gently and respectfully stalk Crutcher. I read the first 20 pages and was crying so hard I had to send him an email asking him if I was strong enough to finish this amazing book. Ben learns at the beginning of his senior year that he has a fatal disease (not named) and will probably die before he graduates. He chooses not to tell anyone and life the last year of his life on his own terms. Ben still haunts me months later. Crutcher reassured me I could finish, and he told me to remember, "It's not about the way he dies; it's about what he leaves behind." My students love this book as much as I do!

Quotes Claudia Liked

Chris Crutcher
“Love, in the universal sense, is unconditional acceptance. In the individual sense, the one-on-one sense, try this: we can say we love each other if my life is better because you're in it and your life is better because I'm in it. The intensity of the love is weighted by how much better.”
