After reading "Heart of Darkness", I found this book to be somewhat dull, not having the amount of action or the great passages of "Darkness." Overall, even though it moves slow, it's a pretty decent read. I didn't like the way that the story of Jim is told through Marlow, in the form of a story being told to a group of people. Without the conversation broken up into individual paragraphs and sentences, it is often very hard to follow or to know who is saying what. It's tale of mortality, cowardice bravery and redemption. In it the main character, obsessed with a cowardly act that has ruined his reputation, life and self-worth attempts to make himself whole again. Yeah, I'd say read it, but if you haven't read "Heart of Darkness", definitely start with that. A lot of dumb Western imperialism going on in here, though.
