The Dog Said Bow-Wow
by Michael Swanwick
You seem to really enjoy Swanwick. I haven't read him at all. What should I start with? Note: Unless short stories are his best medium (a la Tiptree), I'd rather start with a novel-- personal preference.
I absolutely loved The Iron Dragon's Daughter, but it's dark in places. Drug use, poor choices, inescapable societal pressures, that sort of thing.

Absolutely fantastic short stories. Swanwick writes with a verve and imagination I have rarely seen in sf, and his fantasy is always fresh and fiesty. The only story I didn't love was "The Skysailor's Tale," which meandered.
