J.L. Bourne does an excellent job in this sequel. I have to admit that I really enjoy the style of following the protagonist by reading his journal of the events surrounding the zombie outbreak. Different take than other zombie-fiction I've read. Specifically, with the role of the government: who remains in charge, what are they trying to accomplish.

Mentioned last time that I don't like zombie fiction that tries to explain why it happened. Let me add a caveat to that: I don't like zombie fiction that tries to explain why it happened ... if the explanation is 1) too soon, 2) beyond belief (zombies I can believe in, other things I cannot), or 3) not well introduced. Bourne avoids all three of these problems, and I am intrigued by the possible reasons for the outbreak.

PS Why do zombie apocalypses always begin in China? This has me worried.
