Unhappy that she won't be named Lady Holder to Telgar, Lady Thella leaves to manage her own hold up in the mountains above Telgar Hold away from her brother Larad. When life is not how Lady Thella wishes it to be and becomes a renegade that steals from other's hard work for her own gain. She becomes known as Lady Holdless Thella. Jayge Lilcamp's family are traders providing goods and services to Craft, Hold, and Weyr. Jayge's father Crenden doesn't believe that Thread is going to fall soon but is very sadly mistaken. Lilcamp Trader's are forced to return Kimmage Hold to work. F'lar and Lessa of Benden Weyr are busy fighting Thread. Masterharper Robinton is hearing disturbing rumors about holdless and sets a plan in motion to see the end of holdless in the North. Holder Toric is taking small groups of holdless into his Southern Hold in exchange for their labor. Meanwhile it's discovered that a young girl named Aramina can hear any dragon and Thella means to have her. Ten Turns later, Jayge leaves his family to strike out on his own and seek revenge on Thella too. Thella does not realize her raids have come to the notice of the Lord Holders of Telgar, Bitra, Lemos, and Igen. They go to Masterharper Robinton with their concerns but he already knows of their concerns. Can Masterharper Robinton help them? Can Thella be stopped? Will Jayge get his revenge? What will Aramina do? Your answers await you in The Renegades of Pern.
