Entertaining narrative of the first solo circumnavigation of the globe in a sailboat. Slocum certainly wastes no time on the feelings and emotions of such an undertaking or adventure - either before, during or after - but then that is appropriate for the era he lived in - 1890's - However, he certainly does enjoy his trip, even the arduous challenges of pirates and storms, the notorious waters and currents of Tierra del Fuego and encounters with all sorts of characters and non-believers (you can't sail 'around' the world, the world is flat!, and other such non-sense)
