I highly recommend this book for any woman and especially those with children. Brene Brown articulates why we think the way we do about ourselves, and how that affects our behaviour, the things we say, our relationships with ourselves and with others. Our society is based on shame - we feel it, even though me might not even know it, and we manipulate or punish with it. Brown provides many examples from her research and there are at least one if not many that each of us can relate to very closely. She also discusses ways to increase your shame resilience, and why stereotyping feeds shame. I like her approach to authenticy and compassion. At first the book is a little heavy - a lot of definitions and context setting, but once you get into the personal stories and how shame is prevalent in all facets of our society it really grips you. Highly recommend it.
