The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
by Timothy Keller
by Timothy Keller
This is a great book. I would particularly recommend it to people who are searching about the truth of Christianity and the Christianity God. Keller argues that all unbelief in Christianity is based upon other beliefs. He challenges the reader to be as critical of their alternate beliefs as they are against Christianity, guiding us through some basic arguments. He shows that many of them are internally inconsistent and 'self-destructive'. He uses non-Christians' own arguments to show their greatest strengths are really their greatest weaknesses. Some of his critiques are insighful.
In part 2 of the book Keller sets out the positive case for Christianity. He is clear that there is no air tight, infallible argument for Christianity to which people will not find an objection. However he maintains that Christianity best explains the world as we know it and can provide the best accounting and justification for things.
This is a great book to have on hand. Keller is a pastor and has had hundreds if not thousands of thousands of conversations with well educated skeptics in New York City.
