I love Deanna Raybourn's voice in this series, I love the characters and the setting, and I enjoyed reading the book. But after I finished I realized that it wasn't as satisfying as her first three of the series. In those books there is a delicious tension and you can get completely lost in the puzzle of the story. This book is delightful but it feels like the author is pandering to her romance novel readers by shoe-horning in sex scenes at the expense of fleshing out new villains and creating exciting new layers to the mystery for us all to get lost in.

Plus, since the characters are married, the tensions that arise are more of the garden variety marital problems which are decidedly less sexy that those they faced before they married. Here's hoping the next one takes it up a notch.
