Max (Maximum Ride, #5)

The best of this series are the first three novels. Although this one was far from terrible, it also wasn't exactly anything stellar either. I quite honestly do believe that Patterson should either step up his game or write a novel that closes this series up, because I don't know if it's just me, but it really does seem to be losing its flair.
For example, we know that all of the children have all of these superhuman powers, but this is the fifth novel in the series, and their powers still haven't really come into play in the storyline but for a select few. Are we ever going to learn how Angel has gills? I mean, how does that have anything to do with being 98% human and 2% avian? A lot of it seems very arbitrary to me.
I just felt that a lot of this novel was pretty redundant, and there was nothing that really served as a major plot twist, which usually is the case in Patterson's novels. I feel that he is much better at writing mysteries and thrillers than he is science fiction, because with his science fiction, there seems to be a lot more fiction than science, and that's not good science fiction writing in my opinion. Don't get me wrong; I love the guy, but he really needs to get this series back on track.
