Adeline, is one strong woman. Her mother died a few days after giving birth to her. As a result of that, she is considered bad luck to the family. Shortly after becoming a widower her father remarries. They all address her as Niang, she makes life hell for the step children. Throughout Adelines child hood she tries to win the love and acceptance of her family but gets nothing. She never held a grudge against anyone of her siblings. But they turn out to stab her in the back. I really felt Adelines pain while reading this book. I'm glad she's over that now. I wonder if she still keeps in contact with them...
