Well after talking to Shayla about Gilead, I decided to give Home another try although from the first pages I found myself getting a little bored with all the talk about how wonderful Jack was.
However, in the end I really liked it. Not as much as Gilead, but still a lot, and I wished I could have read the books in conjunction with one another as it was fascinating to get Jack and Glory's take on their whole situation. I really liked how even though the whole book was explicitly about Jack, I still got such a great feel for what Glory was going through in her own personal journey. It was from her POV but most of her reflections are about Jack and her father. Yet rather than leading me to feel I was getting only a dim feel for her life, I felt like I was getting a very good feel.
I also liked the interplay between Jack and Boughton and I loved the meditations on home especially when Jack started talking about how he never felt at home at home. That was pretty deep since th Boughtons had an idyllic family life.
Also I am writing this late so I can't really get my words as straight as I wanted, but it does remind me of Henry James which another reader said to right down to the weird dialogue where the characters seem to be almost telepathic.
Marylinne Robinson is a great writer.
