Of the Urban Fantasy books I've read lately this was perhaps my least favorite. Not that it was a particularly bad book, in fact it was overall a decent read and the rating above should really be read as 2.5 stars; however, I had a devil of a time getting into it. The pacing was very slow and it took some time to achieve lift-off... like around chapter 10 or so. I've read plenty of police procedural-style books in the past, and this book really does read a bit like one of those but it wasn't as much about the crime as it was about the main character wallowing and bemoaning his ill-luck. I wasn't instantly netted by Connor Grey as I was with Harry Dresden and Rachel Morgan... I hate to say, I just didn't find him all that interesting in the beginning. Still the book finally got going, and when it did it was exciting enough to keep me going. I'll read the other books in the series but I won't be in any big hurry.
