Gap Creek

Wow. If I had been a young wife in 1900, I would have sucked. I can't imagine doing all the work the main character did on a daily basis. Plus my family would starve because I can't make a meal out of collard greens and cornmeal.
I enjoyed reading the book and seeing Julie's first year of marriage through her innocent eyes. I thought it was very honestly written and described many of the early-marriage pitfalls--in-laws, miscommunication, anger, frustration, etc. Add flooding, deaths, near drownings, starvation, crooks and drunk neighbors and I don't know how any marriage survived.
Worth reading. Made me appreciate all the conveniences I have.
