I am not a lover of period mysteries, but I really do like this one. As a psychiatrist, I am not sure what to make of the phenomenon of Hamish, who is the dead soldier that Ian Rutledge carries with him wherever he goes. He literally sees him, which is a organicity--maybe TBI?? But in any case, Hamish is the one with common sense, with the ability to read people, so he can anticipate what will come next. To Ian's credit, he does not question his sanity but rather follows Hamish's instructions. GOod yarn
