Read from July 27 to August 02, 2011 — I own a copy, read count: once

Steinbeck is a genius. This appears to be the simple story of Cain and Abel. Yet Steinbeck shows us that there is not simple story. By turning everything on it's head he shows us that humanity is full of both good and bad. And not just humanity as a whole, but each individual sits on a spectrum of good and evil. There is no true purity (good or evil) in our world today. We all must come to terms with our own inadequacies and accept reality. We are not the Judge. But once we have accepted this reality, we can work towards which ever end of the spectrum we choose. The lives we lead are based on the choices we make.
