bookshelves: historical-fiction

This was an interesting book. 1817-1850's. Historical fiction about a boy who runs from Kentucky, grows up along the Missouri River, and becomes a trapper in the northern Rocky Mountains. I really liked the raw, rude angle of the story. The main character Boone is one tough dude. I think this has to be historically accurate, too. I spent a lot of time in the Rockies. And it is hard to fathom anyone living OUTSIDE in the Montana and Wyoming mountains through multiple winters. I also liked the descriptions of Indian life. It has long been my opinion that these people are over-romanticized. The book does a good job of staying realistic, I thought.
