Vintage Rankin. A really first rate book. Those who have not read Rankin need to know that his books are dark. Not violent, but dark. His protagonist Redus is a brilliant, alcoholic police inspector who is scarred by all he's seen and has consigned himself to professional and personal life at the margins. He is emminently believable. Damaged goods fighting for the right side in a world where right and wrong have become muddled.
