I ended up stuck in Laurel, Maryland waiting for a train earlier this week. I didn't have anything to read so I dropped into a cigarette smoke filled used bookstore. Agatha Christie is my go-to comfort reading and I didn't remember the ending for this particular book.

This is one of Christie's earlier works and it takes place pre-WWII. Superintendent Battle is involved in a fun and delightful way. Bundle is the ostensible detective and she sort of reminds me of Nancy Drew. Young, no mother, indulgent father, drives an awesome car, locks herself in a cabinet to spy on the bad guys, and stumbles her way into nearly solving the case. I prefer the logical Miss Marple and Poirot to Bundle as an amateur detective.

The introduction, by Val McDermid, points out Christie's class and racial bias. While some of them are obvious, as a modern day American, I didn't wouldn't have picked up on all of those hints.
