bookshelves: poetry

Akhmatova's poems fit comfortably in the tradition of high modernism, featuring themes of isolation, loss, fantasy, and political despair. FOr me her most interesting poems were those that responded, or seemed to respond, to the Russian Revolution and the Stalinist period.
