A really interesting commentary on the hobo lifestyle, London's autobiographical essays recount his experiences in the depression of 1893. One of the most fascinating elements in these essays is his commentary on lying. He describes how the successful beggar will instantly size up a person and weave a story to most appeal to that individual. It's a really interesting perspective on author(itie)s, storytellers, and the responsibility to tell the truth.
