The Reason for God: Belief in an Age of Skepticism
by Timothy Keller
My sister Karen,
When Skeptics say things like "there can't be just one true religion" that is like a child acting in the attitude of "but what if". He is trying to find ways to cop out. It has nothing to do with reason. So, let him keep saying what if till he is finished hahah. However, to answer the question is very simple. In the beginning there is and was God. This God is a speaking God. He chooses a handful of people of the desert called the Israelits and with them He establishes a covenant. This covenant of God goes from generation to generation until it culminates in the coming of Christ, the Son of God, Hebrews 1:1. All religions are ways of reaching to God. We don't bash them. We don't put them down. The Lord has put eternity in their hearts. But this is precisely man reaching all the way up up to God. In Christ it is the other way around, it is God reaching out to man in the event of the Incarnation.
Please try to read Jean DaniƩlou's book "God and ways of Knowing". He deals a lot with this type of questions beautifully. He is my favourite theologian. I adore his writings. His mother was a pious Catholic educator. She raised both sons to be fearing the Lord, one becomes a Cardinal and other becomes a Hindu and his name is Alain DaniƩlou and he is famous for his book on Kama Sutra. I respect both but of course I favour our man, the Cardinal.

My husband is leading an adult and teen discussion on this book in our Sunday school class. Today was our first class and already the discussion was awesome! What I am liking about Keller's way of handling the questions of skeptics, is he is highly respectful in his treatment of people who do not have faith, but have questions. The book deals with all the common questions skeptics ask like : "There can't just be one true religion, How could a good God allow suffering...," and more.
