I picked this book up off the "for sale" shelf at my local library because I enjoy historical fiction. I enjoyed the book; I believe it is at about a junior high or 9th grade reading level. For the parent, there is discussion about beheading and a page or so about a fling Elizabeth has with an older, married man. I cannot comment more because that part was torn out of my copy.
As a whole, the book ignited an interest in Britan's history and I spent time learning more about it after reading this book. From what I've learned, Meyer stuck very close to the truth in Elizabeth's young life. I would certainly recommend this over a history book filled with facts that will soon be forgotten.
