I maintain that each set of couples deserves their own book. Normally I dislike it when an author divides a story up between two pairs but it works better here than in any of the other books I've read. The charachters are vibrant whie still being realistic and belivable and they interact well. Becasue of the divisions though I feel that both halves were underdeveloped and rushed although they did support each other in some interesting ways.
