I've written a complete (though small) review of this book at <http://www.thediagram.com/7_4/rev_katz.html>. I will not hide the fact that I'm a Katz acolyte, because as a writer the man has huevos of steel; he is fearless about what he puts on the page, and it's typically delivered with tremendous linguistic aplomb and wicked humor. Two brilliant gems in this collection are "Hollywood Novelette" and "Nowadays and Hereafter," but they aren't the only pieces worth noting. Katz has been sort of ghettoized as an experimentalist, which is too bad because it limits his audience. (And isn't all writing an experiment, anyway?) More people should read him--that's all there is to it.
