I enjoyed this, it's a good intro to the series. However I'm not sure I would have been so eager to continue it if I had read this one first. Mac is a lot more childish and Barrons is a lot cruder that they were both in the 2nd book. I don't like it when heroines persist in burying their heads in the sand against all the evidence before their eyes. And Jericho Barrons treated her pretty shoddily. But despite those flaws this is a powerful, well-developed world of fantasy. All the magic and creatures and settings are so well done. So I'm hooked and I'm moving on to # 3 now.
