I can't believe I actually finally finished this whole book! I started it almost 3 years ago for my freshman Honors seminar. Many of the stories are really fantastic, & it is especially interesting when you place it into historical context. Witty, funny, and deliciously dirty with the most wonderful euphemisms. It is pretty hefty, though, a hundred short stories, all similar in style. Without one strong through-line to pull you along, the book is best taken a little at a time (which is why, I guess, it took me so long to complete). That said, it's GREAT to take along to appointments or on trips, when you may or may not have a little or a lot of time to kill, because you won't be tortured by leaving off in suspense. It's not even really necessary to read every story in order--for class we were assigned 10 stories from various days, not exactly at random because I'm sure my professor chose those he considered the best sampling, but not with an obvious rhyme or reason.
