it was amazing
bookshelves: literary-sf-fantasy

I loved everything about this book. I loved the way it skipped back and forth in time, and the way it switched its focus from character to character. I loved the way sometimes the characters it focused on were not the ones you were expecting it to focus on, and the way the stories don't all converge in a neat, tidy package at the end, but rather the cumulative journeys of all the characters lead you to a broader conclusion. I also LOVE that in the final chapter, which takes place in 2022 or so, you are introduced to a real vision of what the "future" New York City might look like, but in a way that is totally and completely secondary to the actions and thoughts and emotions of the CHARACTERS in the book. The whole story is just so well told. I was drawn in from the beginning, and there wasn't a single chapter, or a single character, who didn't grip me.
