liked it

I really wanted to like this book more, but there were several things getting in the way. First, this book has absolutely no conclusion/resolution after 600 pages of sometimes slow build up. Second, I felt there were too many themes going without a focus point (may be wrapped up in a future book) and that many of those themes were borrowed - I felt like I was reading a mix of "Harry Potter", "Interview with a Vampire" and "Twilight". I also felt the romance aspect was rushed - if you have 600 pages plus at least one other book to develop the story, having the two main characters admit their love to each other about a third of the way in provides no anticipation.

Despite these misgivings, I did enjoy the book and will read the second installment to see what happens. If it goes down the same path, I'll be done with any future sequels.
