Loved getting lost in Appalachia! I felt like I was right there in that little shack in the mountains, a place where witches dropped their skins and rode men through the moonlit hills. Terrific atmosphere and a skillful blending of magic with reality. The book moves around from Eddie's childhood in the mountains to his early middle age in the suburbs (which is also rich and interesting, especially the dymanic between him, his daughter Wallis, and the orphaned Jasper) to his later days in NYC. But the magic for me was back at the shack, with the WPA workers and the ginseng hunts and the witches. I truly enjoyed this book.
