In Among the Hidden, our world is changed after a famine. A population law is instituted where couples can have two children only, and women have an operation to ensure they don't have more. But hidden in houses, third children do exist. They hide. Sometimes they take artificial identities to go out into the world, but mostly, they live in fear of being found out.

I picked up Among the Hidden because, working at a book store, I had a lot of people looking for it, and that typically tips me off to something good. I didn't really know what it was about before I started reading, which was probably for the best because it makes the books more interesting to learn as the author intended. I did enjoy Among the Hidden, but not as much as I expected to. I didn't find it as exciting or new as I anticipated for something garnering so much attention, but it was good and I would read the second one to give it a further try.
