I think I'm going to have to concede that Christopher Paolini is not a great writer. Which is a shame, because I was kind of rooting for him. Too derivative, too rambling, too blandly/infuriatingly/predictably conforming to a genre full of tropes.

On a related note, I kind of hate Arya...I mean I guess she's an okay character, but I hate the idea of her being Eragon's love's just too obvious. I'm rooting for Eragon and N-what'sherface (Nasuada? something like that). From the beginning Arya was always kind of like some teenage boy's cliched idea of what a perfect woman was...which I guess makes sense but still kind of irks me. It's okay that the character exists, but please don't make your main character moon after her so much kthanks.
