it was ok

So I didn't know that this novel was part of a ""triology"" when I started reading it, and then realized that I was reading the last book of the series. But since I didn't have the first two books I just continued reading it and hoped I would be able to follow along. Mary Karr has written The Liars' Club and Cherry. The Liars' Club was about her childhood; whereas, Cherry was about her adolescence. And Lit is about her adult struggles and battles, especially with following her mother's steps of becoming an alcoholic. I was able to follow along, even though I didn't read the first two books, but since I don't know the complete background and history of the author (which I am sure is provided in the first two books), the author comes off as whinny and an incompetent mother, and I had almost no sympathy for her. Which I realized I do not understand the whole dynamic of her and her mother, hence the lack of my emotions for her journey of failures and endangerment of her child.. Yes the writing style is unique, more prose like than straight writing style. I am not sure if I will read the first two novels......
