Siren's storm was an interesting book to read. The characters were good and the plot different, but what I really liked was the way stories, quotes, and even a ship's log were so important to the story and it's development. There are some obvious plot twists and the book leaves you with plenty of questions. Oddly enough, it's also the kind of ending that you're ok waiting for the next book. There are questions and things you really, really want to know. (Like what's up with Gretchen.) Despite this, the story is complete in a satisfying way. There has to be a sequel and I definitely will read it.

The Odyssey references are well done, even though making Calypso a mermaid was a little odd.
