The Buntline Special (Weird West Tales, #1)
by Mike Resnick

I really wanted to like this book, as it had all the elements of a good steampunk story. However, the writing just seemed shallow and repetitive. Bat Masterson whining about going crazy if he has to endure another night of being locked up EACH night for about 8 nights in a row. Every time someone challenged Doc Holliday to a fight, he is asked if he is scared - he responds he always wins because he is not scared, as he is already dying so it is either dying quick or slow for him. And he is asked this about 10 times. The friendship of Holliday and Ringo always degrades to how they like each other, and it is a shame that they would have to kill each other, but they just HAVE to know who is the better gunslinger. But in the meantime, let's talk the classics in their original Greek. Each day, Holliday has the same conversations, same fights, and same advice, but just with different people. In all honesty, character development was to the point it seemed everyone had the same characteristics. This book went immediately into my "exchange for a different book" pile.
