Whisper of Evil (Bishop/Special Crimes Unit, #5)

I liked the way the whole psychic abilities thing was explained and demystified through conversations held by characters. I also liked the slow reveal of key characters interlocking pasts. I enjoyed the character focus generally actually. Set in the deliciously interesting town called Silence, it was really about the characters with the mystery slowly reaching out to grab me. In other words I didn't really care about the crime or the killer for a long time.
I thought Max's devotion to Nell was a bit ridiculous given their history and excessively romantic. I didn't really care for Max all that much actually. The two or three "killer" point of view sections were unnecessary.
The climax was good and unpredictable to me anyway especially the appearance of another person from Nell's past to help her along. A good thriller and worth the effort.
