Read from July 23 to 30, 2011

I usually don't care for nonfiction but love historical fiction. This book got such rave reviews and was on every major list of suggested reading so I thought I'd give it a try.
I found the book to be heavy on the name dropping and setting up of the story of how the girls came to teach in the west. I could have done without the whole first half of the book. But finally we got to the part of the story I wanted to read about and it was captivating. Imagine my surprise then when a little more than halfway through the total pages, the story ended. On my Kindle, I was only 66% of the way through and it was over. The rest of the book was acknowledgements and notes.
What a rip off! The only part of the book worth reading was about 30 pages long. I was extremely disappointed. Save your money on this one and get it from the library if you really want to try it. I suggest you not waste your time.

Maureen I agree! A lot of hype for nothing!

Melanie Cohen I'm so glad I didn't buy this.
