it was ok
bookshelves: first-world-war, fiction

An interesting concept for a book but disappointing in its execution. I thought the story lacked development and for a supposedly serious book on the senseless futility and injustice of war it did not make enough emotional impact for me. Added to that the fact that there were certain passages that seemed to be written purely to appeal to the male ego, i.e. the nurse who said she could happily live as a lesbian were it not for the fact that she could not live without the you-know-what. So for an interesting idea which could have been so much more it gets two stars.
