For a first novel by a nineteen year old this is a great book. I don't know if I'd say it's a "great book" though. It is fast-paced and darkly humorous. It was also interesting to get a feel for the views of youth in post-communist Poland. The author does a good job of making the first person narration a reflection of the protagonist's drug addled consciousness. The plot seemed to be a vehicle to express something about the unique sort of national consciousness that exists in a country that is fiercely nationalistic perhaps mostly as a response to being constantly dominated either by Russia or the west. I just reviewed this so I could catch up with everyone with their 8 gazillion reviews. How many 2000's Polish female novelists have you read smart guys?! Ha.
