"When it comes to comedians writing novels, only a handful seem to do a good job but for me, I still believe Chelsea Handler does the best job on talking about events and stories along her road called her life. ""Are You There Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea"" is the comedian's - and host of ""Chelsea Lately"" - second novel and though the novel isn't in par with all her drinking adventures as the title may give the illusion of being, it is to me a more entertaining read than her novel of one-night stands.

The flow and the direction of each story seems to stand out more in this novel than in the debut novel thus I am giving credit that Handler is actually improving with her writing. I am hoping that her third novel (Chelsea, Chelsea, Bang, Bang) will be either equivalent or better than this novel. If it is not, I won't fret and probably review it as is. Still the fact that there are numerous improvements from her first novel such as a better pace of each story, a diversity of more advanced vocabulary that wouldn't be used in normal conversation and of course the stories themselves being told in a manner that is both entertaining and storybook quality is shown.

If there are any flaws, it would be that if you didn't like Handler's first novel, then you may not like this one as well for even though the stories are not solely centered around a specific theme like her first novel, the wackiness, candor, and all of what was in the first novel is multiplied at least twice in this novel. It is also noted that though the stories are quite simple in nature to respect to Handler's life and career, it is still simple nevertheless so any major plot twists or over-the-top imagination shown mostly in fiction is absent.

All in all, I found this novel to be a more worthwhile read than the first novel though the first novel is good too. This novel in my opinion is better with stories that are probably more relative to the common population since not everyone will have experienced as many one-night stands as Handler with the few exceptions some of my friends are in qualification to her standard. This novel is also a bit gritty and aggressive breaking a lot of walls that may be associated with how a gender should act as in Handler's explanation of events that counter society's perceived view of how a girl should or should not act as well as using words and phrases that are mostly common placed as ""bad words"" among the female gender - such as the ""c"" word. I would definitely give this book a shot if you like comedy though because the book is chock full of it."
