This is a pretty good book. Talbott is a professed capitalist but argues that the system we now live in is not a capitalist system and that there are so many flaws in the way things are run that a quick recovery is not on the books. I tend to agree. Much of what has been done is a band-aid fix, and we are setting ourselves up for an even bigger fall. While I think that he had some good points, this book comes out more like the author had a chip on his shoulder. The problems that the economy faced at the time of the writing have resolved, to an extent, but we are facing bigger and deeper problems now, such as a stubbornly high unemployment rate in the US, sovereign debt crises, and a two-speed economy in Australia. While this crises does not compare to the 30's, we are still not out of the woods as yet.
