At the beginning of the book Charles Ryder is in the army and their battalion move from one destination to Brideshead a house he knew from his youth. The story then becomes about Charles' earlier life and how he ended up there years later.

This was an enjoyable read. A satire of the English gentry in the 1920s - marriages are for appearances sake and you only get divorced if you fall in love with another. I found the second half of the book quite predictable but the first half was refreshing and witty. A quick and easy read which I would recommend.
