An Unfinished Business follows the story of Malrich and his brother Rachel who are Algerian nationals living in France. When their parents are murdered by Islamic fundamentalists Rachel makes a shocking discovery. Through reading his father's military record Rachel discovers that his father was an SS Officer in Germany during the war and was involved with the Final Solution including serving at a number of different camps. When Rachel commits suicide his diaries are passed onto his younger brother and the novel follows both brothers through dairy extracts. This novel is not easy reading my any means but it is a compelling study of guilt and evil. Rachel feels guilty, appalled that his father was able to commit such crimes and then escape justice and these facts begin to shape his life. i would highly recommend this novel it is undoubtedly brave, honest and gripping.
