A tragedy focusing on Philip, a colonel, and Genevieve who were separated during war in Siberia. Philip finally years later finds Genevieve only to see that she has lost her mind, capable only of speaking one word. "Farewell."

Overall, it is a well-written tragedy, but the characters come across as weak rather than sympathetic. Recommended for fans of French literature and tragedies.
