Good Girls Don't (Donovan Brothers Brewery, #1)
by Victoria Dahl
by Victoria Dahl
Tessa Donovan is a good girl at the sight of his older brothers. She's an orphan since childhood, was raised by his older brother, so she must all respect to him, and for that reason she hides many things, things that can hurt and destroy the family unit; Tessa is fun, beautiful and her look I'm-a-good-girl deceives everyone. Luke is a divorced detective (and he's handsome, charming, attractive and purposeful) who is constantly worried for his partner, he's reluctant to return to fall in love and he tolerates only brief and inconsequential relationship. But when he see Tessa for first time, both of them feel an attraction, will cause more problems than benefits.
It's my first time reading this writer, so my expectations were great (they always are when I meet a new author to catch my attention), but with this book I have not been entirely happy.
The plot mix a story of romance (between two characters who have their own scars, which makes the story takes an interesting twist, but not quite attractive) and a bit of mystery. At the beginning, the mystery that involves the brewery's robbery is not too interesting and ends up being fairly predictable, I was not surprised with anything that topic in the book.
As for romance, Tessa and Luke maintain an uneasy relationship, each with their own doubts and insecurities, the two are so complex that therefore the relationship is complex, and makes reading becomes a bit heavy in some chapters and quite predictable in others.
What caused me major attraction was the Luke's partner, Simone, because the mystery of who is the father of her baby comes to overshadow many parts of the book. From the beginning I wanted to know who would be the father and why Luke is so interested in her. Simone and his story has been my favorite part.
Through the pages, Tessa and Luke learn to deal with their problems, the truths are revealed and the initial circle (which begins with the robbery) is completed.
It's a funny story, with good and bad moments, with a funny woman and a sexy and charming man, which find their way to love (a difficult way), leaving behind all the insecurities.
