I was a little dubious about this book at first, it looked a little "girly" and possibly "fluffy" for my taste, but I'm really glad I picked it up. I blazed through the just-under-500 pages 150 pages at a time, and I'm pretty sure I cried through the final 70. I loved the vivid descriptions of the clothing (I was born at the tail-end of the 80's but the author was so accurate I had no problem envisioning the outfits the girls wore in the '70s and '80s), and the music and pop-culture references really set each scene and gave a great sense of placement. The characters, despite their many flaws, were so relatable and lovable they began to feel like personal friends. I really enjoyed getting to know them from the earliest moments of their lives all the way into adulthood; it was an uncommon and engaging storytelling tactic. Overall, a great read, I would highly recommend it to any woman who's ever had a best friend or who's ever learned even a little bit of what it feels like to grow up.
