really liked it

I quite enjoyed this book. I found it very charming but with a lot going on under the surface. I found Major Pettigrew to be a very interesting character. I liked his sense of humor and found many of his observations to be quite funny.

I read it for a book club and everyone in the group found it to be a perfect summer read. Light and entertaining but with a touch of deeper undercurrents to keep you interested.

The characters were all very human and believable. The interactions between the characters and the prejudices they bring to each of their relationships were very well expressed.

This is the author's first novel and I will be interested to see what else she chooses to write about.
