I am a big fan of Franzen, but this was not his best.In fact it was horrifically bad. I found the plot too dull to want to keep on reading. A woman from india is hired to become the police chief of st. louis. Really? I admit I quit on books that I don't enjoy because there are too many books to read to waste time on a bad one. After the complete pointlessness of the plot (possible clout in a merger of the city and county) I had to just call it quits ( like the republican party during debt talks). I am sorry Franzen for bashing this books, I still loved the Corrections and Freedom. His beautiful prose which is what makes him one of my favorite authors was absent here.
