As well written as this is, I found the pace plodding for the final fourth of the book.

THE Right you are...I kept expecting more rather than less. It was almost as though Highsmith ran of steam (creatively speaking) and even the ingenious maneuvers were less imaginative. It was as if Tom Ripley was ageing badly.

"Ripley Under Water" is proving a much better read! Mr. and Mrs. Pritchard are bold and unnerving adversaries. I am in heaven!

THE Wonderful...although heaven is not the venue that Highsmith had in mind! Enjoy it because this is sadly the last of Ripley books.
